Sankofa Wellness Project
See Sankofa in Our Own Words
A look at the journey, the brotherhood, and the work we are doing together.
"It is not wrong to go back and fetch it."
Sankofa is an Akan word. We reach back for the wisdom, wholeness, and knowledge of self that were always ours, and we carry them forward. This is not about closing a gap or gaining access. It is about remembering, and reclaiming.
Four Movements, One Circle
Sankofa moves through four phases. Not a checklist, a spiral we return to, together.
Ground
We start by telling the truth. Identity, history, and the burdens we carry as Black men. Naming where we are before we move.
Reclaim
We reach back. Roots, stories, and ancestral wisdom. Remembering what was taken and what is still ours.
Heal
Healing we can feel in the body. Art, music, movement, nature, food, and traditions of care, not just talk.
Build
We turn wisdom into practice. Personal rituals, cooperative economics, and thriving community, so the healing lasts.
A small circle, doing real work, together.
A cohort of 25
We keep it small on purpose. No one is a face in a crowd. Deep relationships and real accountability.
Gatherings through the year
Retreats and circles that carry the four phases, with Sankofa woven into our monthly time together.
Grounded in tradition
Every circle opens with a libation ceremony, an African tradition of remembrance and gratitude. This is the ground we stand on.
Help Sustain the Journey
We are not a charity asking for permission, and donations are not what keeps the lights on. But if this work speaks to you, your gift helps sustain it. Every dollar keeps these spaces open. Retreats, gatherings, education, and the brotherhood that holds it all together. Give what moves you.
